IPCop is a Linux distribution that provides features simple-to-manage firewall appliance based on PC hardware. IPCop also a stateful firewall is based on the Linux netfilter framework.
This distribution was originally developed by the team that developed the Linux Smoothwall firewall, the next development, IPCop project is developed independently, and are now completely separate.
IPCop is very simple, and features a user-managed unpuk securyty its update mechanism. Tend to be easily understood even for the beginners, and reliable for the experienced.
IPCop is open source is developed, with a scattered community of independent developers diseuluruh world. CD-ROM image for the installation can be easily downloaded and have enough mirrors.
IPcop development continues to this day has reached release series 1.4.x. It is now released version 4.1.21 month July 2008. currently being developed IPcop Version 2.0.
Although not officially part of the community, many of which contributed to the development IPcop. In general, they create additional modules known as Add-ons. These addons provide additional capacity to be more reliable IPCop, some of the most frequently used addons are the QoS for bandwidth management, Url Filter and Advanced Proxy to proxy and filter access, E-mail virus scanner, OpenVPN, and more. We will discuss about these addons separately.
